St. Victoria

Victoria and her sister Anatolia, lived in Italy in the fourth century AD during the reign of Emperor Decius. Marriages were arranged for the two sisters, to two noble, non-Christian Roman men. Victoria and her sister refused these suitors who were opposed to their Christian faith. These men were then given permission to imprison and persecute the sisters in an attempt to make them recant their faith. Despite dreadful persecution they remained steadfast. According to legend, St. Victoria was stabbed through the heart and her murderer was immediately struck with leprosy and died after six days. Her feast day is commemorated on December 23rd.
