St. Ursula
In the German city of Cologne there is a Church of St. Ursula with an inscription from the fourth or fifth century which states that the basilica had been restored on the site where a group of holy virgins had been martyred. This has been the source of many legends concerning St. Ursula. According to one of these she was the daughter of a Christian king in Britain and she had undertaken a journey across Europe with many ladies-in-waiting. When they reached Cologne they were all massacred by the pagan Huns in about 451 AD. The feast day of St. Ursula is October 21st, and she is the patron saint of Cologne, England, archers and orphans. Her attributes are an arrow, a banner, a cloak and a clock. These are sometimes seen in stained glass windows of St. Ursula.
