St. Seraphina

St. Seraphina is mostly called by her shortened name “Fina”. She was born in the small Italian town of San Gimignano in 1238. When she was ten years old she developed a serious illness which caused her great pain and paralysis for the next five years. Fina was a very humble and virtuous child, devoted to the Virgin Mary and to St. Gregory. She bore her illness bravely and was always seeking to help and encourage others. She refused to lie in bed but rather lay on a wooden plank. Before she died she received an apparition of St. Gregory the Great who told her that she would die on his feast day March 12th, which indeed she did, and now she shares the same feast day. It is said that when her body was removed from the plank, sweet smelling white violets sprang up. In stained glass windows of St Fina she can sometimes be seen together with St. Gregory, lying on her wooden board, with violets which are her symbol. St. Fina is the patron saint of the physically challenged and spinners. Would you like a stained glass image of St. Seraphina in your place of worship?
