St. Scholastica
St. Scholastica was the twin sister of St. Benedict, born in Italy in the fifth century. She consecrated her life to God at a very young age and later went to live at Plombariola where she founded a monastery of nuns. This was near to the monastery which her brother had founded in Monte Cassino. They would visit each other annually, and shortly after one of these visits St. Benedict saw the soul of St. Scholastica ascending to heaven as a shining white dove. This dove is often seen flying from her mouth in stained glass windows. She is also pictured as a nun with a crozier (or staff) and crucifix. Her feast day is commemorated on February 10th and she is the patron saint of convulsive children and is invoked against storms and rain. Do you have a stained glass window depicting St. Scholastica in your place of worship? If not, we would be happy to provide you with the perfect window or door panel to augment your church décor.
