Stained Glass Honoring St. Margaret Mary Alacoque

“What have I in heaven and what do I desire on earth, but Thee alone, O my God.”  These were words used frequently by beloved Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, whose feast day is October 16. This saint was born in France in 1647, and displayed a great devotion for the Blessed Sacrament, even as a very young child.  Some of the most beautiful stained glass art throughout the world depicts the extraordinary life of this holy woman, and the artisans in the studio of Stained Glass Inc. have created works of art in her honor.

As she grew, Margaret preferred worship and devotion to childhood play. Vowing to consecrate herself to a life of religious service, she was healed after four years of paralysis.  She entered the Visitation Convent at Paray in 1671, and is portrayed in stained glass masterworks dressed in nun’s habit, or kneeling before Jesus, created with brilliant color and flawless imagery.

St. Margaret Mary Alacoque is the saint who gave the faithful the longstanding tradition of First Friday devotions, the Holy Hour of Prayer from 11 p.m. until midnight on the eve of the first Friday of each month in commemoration of Christ’s agony, when He was abandoned by his disciples prior to the crucifixion.  Her body is entombed below the altar in the Chapel at Paray in France.  To this day, many receive healing while visiting and praying at her tomb.
