St. Christopher
St. Christopher is well known as the patron saint of travellers, and is seen in sacred art and stained glass carrying a child on his shoulders. Legend has it that Christopher was crossing a river when a child asked to be carried over. When he put the child on his shoulders he discovered he was extremely heavy. It appeared that the child was Christ carrying the weight of the world. Christopher is listed a martyr who died in the year 251 AD during the reign of Decius. St. Christopher is invoked for travelling mercies and for protection against storms and plagues. His feast day is July 25th.
