St. Charity
According to Eastern legend, St. Charity was the daughter of Wisdom (also known as St. Sofia) and her sisters were Faith and Hope. Their Latin names were Fides, Spes and Caritas (meaning Faith, Hope and Charity). St. Charity and her two sisters were martyred during the persecution of Christians under the reign of the Roman emperor Hadrian in the second century AD. At the time Charity was about nine years old and her sisters twelve and ten respectively. The girls were beaten and burned with boiling pitch which miraculously did not harm them and finally they were beheaded. They were buried in the Aurelian Way and their mother died three days later while praying at their graves. The feast day of St. Charity is August 1st. In sacred art such as stained glass windows, St. Charity is usually shown together with her mother and two sisters. If you would like a stained glass window or door panel in your church or home of St. Charity and her brave siblings and mother, then please contact us to discuss your order.
