St. Anthony Stained Glass
St. Anthony, who lived in France during the tenth century, is not to be confused with St. Anthony of Padua or St. Anthony the Great. This particular St. Anthony was a hermit who lived in the Luxeuil Abbey. He is also known as Anthony of Luxeuil or Anthony of Liaroles. He was renowned for his piety and sanctity, living as a monk according to the Benedictine Order. He was canonized pre-congregation and is revered as a saint in the Catholic Church. His feast day is March 9th. Sacred artworks such as carvings and stained glass of St. Anthony sometimes show him lovingly cradling the Christ child on one arm, while holding a feather in the other hand.
