St. Andre Bessette

Alfred Bessette was born in Canada in 1845 and was later renamed André Bessette. He is also known as St. Andre of Montreal. His father died when André was nine years old, and three years later his mother died leaving him an orphan. Even at a young age, André‘s devotion and generosity did not go unnoticed, despite his weak health, and he was admitted to the Congregation of the Holy Cross. He took his final vows at the age of twenty-eight. André was devoted to St. Joseph, and when he would pray for the sick after rubbing them with oil, they were healed. His fame grew to such an extent that so many people would come daily for his prayers that are would cause a disturbance at the monastery. When St. André died in 1937 at the age of ninety-one, a million people came to pay their respects at his coffin. His feast day is January 6th.
