St. Alice
St. Alice (or Aleydis) was born at Shaerbeck in Belgium in the year 1204. At the young age of seven she entered a Cistercian convent where she remained until her death. Alice was known for her spirit of humility even through great suffering in which she was afflicted with the disease of leprosy. For this reason she had to be isolated, and her greatest consolation was to receive the Holy Eucharist, although she was not allowed to drink from the cup for fear that she would infect others with her disease. She received assurance from the Lord that receiving only the bread was sufficient. St. Alice was known for her visions and ecstasies. Leprosy caused her intense suffering, and eventually she became paralyzed and blind. She died in 1250 at the age of forty-six. Her feast day is June 15th, and she is the patron saint of the paralyzed and the blind. If you would like a stained glass window depicting St. Alice we would be happy to help you.
