St. Alena Stained Glass

St. Alena lived in Belgium during the seventh century. Her parents were pagans, and unknown to them, Alena secretly converted to Christianity and was baptized. When he father discovered this, he sent armed guards to arrest her and bring her home. Alena resisted their efforts and in the struggle she lost one arm that led to her death in prison soon after. It is said that an angel appeared and took her severed arm to the chapel where she was worshiping, and subsequent miracles were reported at the burial site of St. Alena, including the restoration of sight. St. Alena is invoked for healing as the patron saint of eye trouble and toothaches. Her feast day is celebrated on June 18th. In art and stained glass St. Alena is depicted as a princess with one arm missing, and may be seen healing a blind man or with an angel attending.
