St. Albert the Great
St. Albert the Great is also known as Albertus Magnus or Albert of Cologne. He was a German Dominican friar and a Catholic bishop who lived during the thirteenth century and had been called “the greatest German philosopher and theologian of the Middle Ages.” He was among the first and greatest of the natural scientists and was very learned in many disciplines including biblical studies and theology. Stained glass and other sacred art of St. Albert often shows him sitting with books. There are many schools and churches named after him, as well as the Albertus typeface or font that gets its name from St. Albert. His Feast Day is celebrated on November 15th, and he is the patron saint of scientists, philosophers, and students.
