St. Abigail Stained Glass

The Irish St. Abigail was also known as “St. Gobnait”. The meaning of her name is “One who Brings Joy”. She lived during the Sixth Century AD in County Cork, where the community of Ballyvourney still celebrates her feast day on February 11th with a Mass at the well during which everyone takes water from the well. St. Abigail is the patron saint of bees and beekeepers. In stained glass pictures, she can be seen standing on a beehive, surrounded by bees. One of the miracles attributed to St. Abigail was that she protected her parish community by unleashing a swarm of bees. She was also known for healing illnesses and wounds with honey and herbal remedies. She protected her town and the wells from the plague by consecrating the ground. In England, she is also known as St. Deborah, which means honey bee. Would you like a depiction of this “sweet saint” in your church or chapel?
