Saint Peter Canisius was born in 1521 in the Netherlands during the Protestant Reformation, and as a Jesuit priest, is credited with helping reestablish the identity of the Catholic faith in Germany, as well as fostering an understanding of Catholicism among Protestants.  As a doctor of the church, he founded and sustained the first German language Jesuit colleges, and was respected for his work as an influential teacher and preacher.  At Stained Glass, Inc., his life is memorialized in extraordinary works of stained glass art, in honor of his feast day, celebrated on December 21.

The first Dutch member of the Society of Jesus, soon after its inception in 1543, Saint Peter Canisius was beloved for his inspiring Christian teaching, leading hundreds of Protestants back to the Catholic faith during his tenure from 1559 to 1568 as preacher in the Cathedral of Augsburg.  He founded the College of Saint Michael in Switzerland, a Jesuit preparatory school where his remains are interred before the main altar of the church there.
