Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebrated in Magnificent Stained Glass
Our Lady of Guadalupe in Stained Glass
In 1531, an extraordinary event took place near Mexico City, with the first appearance of Our Lady of Guadalupe to a humble man named Saint Juan Diego, who was canonized in 2002. She appeared as a lovely young woman and requested that a church be built on the spot where she stood. Juan Diego quickly brought her message to church officials, and was met by skepticism. Our Lady proved her identity to a doubtful archbishop of Mexico City by placing a bouquet of rare December roses, Castilian roses that were not native to Mexico, into Diego’s tilma, an article of clothing worn by peasants. She also brought healing to Diego’s ailing uncle, to demonstrate her mercy and power to the archbishop.
When Diego returned to the church official, and opened his cloak to show the archbishop the flowers, they fell away, revealing the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe embedded in the cloth of his tilma, which became a sacred icon. Revered among Mexicans, Our Lady of Guadalupe is depicted in exquisite detail and design as part of the collection of stained glass art from the studios of Stained Glass, Inc. Cloaked in scarlet and blue as part of the design, Our Lady is framed in reflective light that lends a prayerful, inspiring glow to every décor.
Her feast day, celebrated on December 12, draws millions to the sacred icon on the tilma at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. At Stained Glass, Inc., breathtaking works of art honor this Holy symbol of Mexico and Mexican culture.
