St. Vitus

St. Vitus was a Christian saint from Sicily who was martyred during the persecution of Christians by the Roman emperors Diocletian and Maximian in 303 AD. In the Catholic Church St. Vitus is considered one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. St. Vitus’s Feast day is celebrated on June 15th and in the Middle Ages the people of Germany and other lands would dance before the statue of St. Vitus on his feast day. This dancing was very popular and became known as St. Vitus’s Dance which can also refer to those afflicted with epilepsy. He is the Patron Saint of epileptics, dancers and all entertainers. When St. Vitus is the subject of art or stained glass windows, he is often shown in a cauldron, or with a rooster or lion. Would you like to include a depiction in stained glass of St. Vitus in your newly remodeled church building? If so we would be glad to assist you in choosing the design to suit your décor and theme.
