Blessed Teresa of Calcutta
Blessed Teresa of Calcutta is most commonly known as Mother Teresa. A truly remarkable woman, Teresa was born in Albania in 1910, and died at the age of 87 in India. She was a Roman catholic Religious Sister who founded the “Missionaries of Charity” who now work in over 130 countries of the world. They run hospices and homes for those suffering from HIV/AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis, as well as soup kitchens, dispensaries and mobile clinics, counseling programs, orphanages and schools. All members of Mother Theresa’s Order must live by the four vows of chastity, poverty, obedience and giving wholehearted free service to the poorest of the poor. In 1979, Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize, and in 2003, she was beatified as “Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.” In Mother Teresa’s own words she said, “By blood, I am Albanian. By citizenship, an Indian. By faith, I am a Catholic nun. As to my calling, I belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the Heart of Jesus”. Her feast day is September 5th, and she is the patron of World Youth Day. Stained glass depictions of Mother Teresa show her wearing the familiar blue and white nun’s habit. If you would like to honor Mother Teresa in your church, home of workplace, we can provide you with a fitting stained glass work of art to suit your situation perfectly.
