St. Susanna

Susanna was born to a noble family in Rome in the third century AD and was related to Pope Caius. At an early age she made a vow of virginity. She refused a marriage arranged by the Emperor Diocletian and was instrumental in converting some of the court officers who tried to convince her to marry. All this resulted in St. Susanna being horribly tortured and finally martyred for her faith and devotion to God, in about the year 295 AD. She was beheaded in her father’s house which became a church. In Rome today there is the famous Santa Susanna Church which is named for her. She is commemorated on her feast day which is August 11th.
