St. Colette
In 1380 the birth of Nicolette Boilet brought great joy to her elderly parents who had prayed to St. Nicolas for help in having a child. According to tradition her mother was 60 years old when she gave birth to her daughter and named her after the saint to whom they had prayed. Her name was then shortened to Colette. Born in France, Colette became an abbess and the foundress of the Colettine Poor Clares. She founded seventeen convents and reformed several others. Numerous miracles were claimed during her lifetime and she was known for her sanctity and visions of the passion. St. Colette is venerated as the patron saint of women seeking to conceive, expectant mothers and sick children. Her feast day is March 6th. In stained glass art St. Colette is usually seen wearing the nun’s habit and holding a staff.
