St. Aloysius Gonzaga

Aloysius Gonzaga was born to an Italian aristocratic family in 1568. Throughout his short life, he was known for his piety and devotion, having made a religious vow of perpetual virginity at the age of nine. Despite his family’s ambitions for him, he joined the Jesuits. During the plague of 1587, St. Aloysius served in a hospital caring for the victims when he contracted the disease and died at the age of twenty-three. In stained glass and other art, St. Aloysius is often shown as a young man wearing a black cassock, holding one or more of his attributes which are a lily, a cross, a rosary or a skull. His Feast Day is June 21st, and he is the patron saint of young students, the blind and AIDS patients. Are you looking for a stained glass panel of St. Aloysius Gonzaga? If so, we can help you!
